Please help us persuade BCP Council to give Nellie the Recycling fish a home for July near Bournemouth Pier.
Since lockdown restrictions eased local people have been appalled by the level of litter around our beaches and parks - in stark contrast to its absence during the initial lockdown. Social media is awash with images showing the dreadful mess beachgoers are leaving behind. We need to tackle this, and Nellie fish is the ideal visual feature around which to create messaging that could tie in really effectively with BCP councils ‘Leave Only Footprints’ campaign.
With a lot less people travelling abroad to holiday this year we can expect higher than usual visitor numbers so it’s essential that the issue is tackled proactively and that we use the opportunity to educate visitors about the harm caused to wildlife and our community by single use waste and encourage visitors to bring their water bottle, cups, bags and other reusable items. We Have the POWER have booked Nellie for July. Local schools are eager to get involved in creating posters and artwork to highlight the problems caused by littering and single use waste, especially to our marine life.
We have the POWER has covered the costs for Nellie to be delivered to Bournemouth. We just need BCP council to agree to site her prominently by Bournemouth Pier and to empty her along with the regular recycling bins. Please support this campaign by sending an email to BCP council or posting on their Facebook page with “WE WANT NELLIE THE RECYCLING FISH AT BOURNEMOUTH PIER FOR JULY”
Please free to share the attached PDF file around social media or hand to your local waste collection people. We are sure they would appreciate some support in getting people to take responsibility for their litter to avoid making their already difficult job unmanageable!
